Let’s play a game of “Did You Know?!”

Welcome to AO’s game of “Did You Know”, where you’ll hopefully learn something OR realize just how damn smart you are. The theme for this week’s DYK is our our friendly compliment to exercise: NUTRITION.

Let’s Being.

  • 👉 DID YOU KNOW BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids) taken before and after your workouts can help:

    • decrease exercise-induced muscle damage (aka soreness)

    • promote muscle protein synthesis (aka build muscle mass)

    If you’re the type who’s regularly sore, consider adding some BCAAs to your supplement routine.

  • 👉 DID YOU KNOW adding FATS TO SUGARS makes that sweet carbohydrate MORE addictive that just sugar alone?

    • In addition, when that combination of fats to sugars is processed, it’ll be more adductive than the unprocessed form!

    • Think about it… Which sweet treat do you crave more? Peanut butter cups or trail mix? 😉

  • 👉 DID YOU KNOW the darker, more vibrant your GREENS are, the more thylakoids they have? Think blanched greens versus roasted greens… Which are more vibrants? [The answer is blanched]. The benefits of thylakoids include:

    • Delaying fat absorption in your guts until the end of your intestines which in turn, decreases the amount of caloric intake your body absorbs from fatty foods (think- fries).

    • Increases your ghrelin hormone, signaling to your brain that you’re no longer hungry (aka satisfied”).

    • Decreases inflammation in your guts resulting in a happy functioning GI system.

  • 👉 DID YOU KNOW you can increase your Zzz’s by incorporating more melatonin-rich foods in your diet? Here are a few of our favorites gems that help encourage better sleep:

    • Fruits and vegetables (tart cherries, corn, asparagus, tomatoes, pomegranate, olives, grapes, broccoli, cucumber)

    • Grains (rice, barley, rolled oats)

    • Nuts and Seeds (walnuts, peanuts, sunflower seeds, mustard seeds, flax seed)

🤾🏼‍♂️ 10 Box Jumps

🏋🏾‍♀️ 10 Dumbbell Thrusters

🤸🏻‍♂️ 10 Ball Slam Burpees

🧘🏻‍♀️ 10 Butterfly Sit Ups

2️⃣ At 3 minutes, complete one building run (~1 min.)

3️⃣ Rest 90 sec.
